CAR STRUCK BY TRAIN

MAN AND HIS WIFE KILLED VEHICLE CARRIED FOR A QUARTER OF A MILE (United Press Association) ASHBURTON, February 4. A shocking double fatality occurred at the Fairton railway crossing when the south-bound express, travelling at a high speed, crashed into a two-seater motor-car which was entangled in the cowcatcher and was carried a quarter of a mile. The driver of the car, John McDonald, a farmer, aged about 55, of Seafield, was carried the full distance in the wreckage. His companion, Mrs McDonald, was thrown out, being literally cut to pieces by the wheels so that actual identification was impossible. The deceased leaves three sons, one being in camp at Papakura.
