PROPOSED BOUT FOR STRICKLAND
(United Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 4. A special meeting of the committee of the Auckland Boxing Association was held tonight to discuss a proposed bout between Maurice Strickland, of New Zealand, and Ron Richards, of Australia. Negotiations had been in progress for such a match to be held in Auckland during the present month and the committee unanimously decided upon the following resolution:— “That any authority given to Mr Charles Lucas to negotiate on behalf of the Auckland Boxing Association be withdrawn (a) in view of the fact that the association had endeavoured to facilitate arrangements for the Strick-land-Richards contest even to the extent of obtaining guarantors against possible loss; (b) because of there being no further correspondence from Lucas as promised in his letter of January 3- (c) because the committee understands that other negotiations are in progress by Lucas whereby a match between the said boxers is likely to take place in Australia.”
