ITALIAN ATTACK FAILS

Greeks Hold Ground Beyond K lisura HEAVY FASCIST LOSSES IN ALBANIA (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received January 20, 10.50 p.m.) LONDON, January 20. The Italians yesterday unsuccessfully counter-attacked beyond Klisura. The Greeks allowed the attackers to approach before firing. The sudden hail of bullets confused the Italians, who hastily retreated after wildly throwing a few grenades. The Italian artillery did not attempt to support the counterattack. A heavy snowfall on most of the front restricted operations to local artillery duels. The Greek communique states that limited local operations were carried out. Numerous prisoners and abundant material were captured. The spokesman said that in spile of the snow the Greeks further advanced their lines. Two regiments of the “Wolves of Tuscany” had been destroyed. The Greek newspapers today estimate Italian losses in Albania at 70,000 men—-one-third of Italy’s forces in Albania when the war broke out. This total includes those killed, wounded, taken prisoner and repatriated because of illness. GREEK SUCCESS A substantial Greek success is announced in an Athens communique which says: “In the course of yesterday’s operations which were to our advantage we occupied points in fortified territory ->nd captured 1000 prisoners, including a number of officers and Colonel Meneghetti who commands the 70th Regiment of the 70th Division—- “ The Wolves of Tuscany.” Prisoners are also reported to have been captured during operations on the Noi ern '~ont. Belgrade reports state that the Italians are bringing up large reinforcements in all sectors in Albania. With many planes released b’’ the Germans from the Mediterranean a concentrated Italian air attack seems imminent. The Greeks have taken additional positions in the Moscopolye area. The situation is unchanged elsewhere.
