Sheep Die During Shearing

It is reported that during shearing operations at Island Bay, Banks Peninsula, last Thursday, five sheep died while being shorn. One of the shearers said the heat was so excessive in the shearing shed that the shearers could not handle the sheep, and apart from those which died a number of others had to be released before the fleece was removed, otherwise there would have been more deaths. The shearer said it was the hottest day he had ever known in a shearing shed.
