DIVISIONAL COMMANDER WELCOMED Considerable interest was shown in the visit of Major Atherford and Mrs Atherford, who were welcomed in the Gore Salvation Army Hall. Major Atherford, who is the newly-appointed divisional commander, was at Gore 30 years ago. The Deputy-Mayor of Gore (Cr J. A. Baldey), in the absence of the Mayor (Mr A. T. Newman), extended a civic welcome, and on behalf of the Gore Pipe Band presented a photograph of the band in recognition of the fact that the major was the first organizing secretary. Cr N. Robson presented the meeting with a tin containing collections amounting to £4/10/8 to be used for the benefit of troops in camp. Treasurer Rix represented the corps band, which gave two numbers. A vocal duet was also given by Sisters N. Rix and W Podmore. In reply, Majoi’ and Mrs Atherford thanked each representative speaker for the welcome extended.
