Cool And Changeable (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, January 12. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington: Fresh to strong and rather squally winds from between west and south. Weather cool and changeable with occasional showers and bright intervals. Sea, rough. The Dominion forecast is as follows: — Weather rather squally and changeable with occasional local showers, but mainly fair to fine; mild at first in the north but temperatures becoming cooler generally. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone, centred near Tasmania, extends over the North Tasman Sea and a very deep depression is located near the Chatham Islands and is moving slowly southeastward. Winds. —North-westerly at times about Cook Strait but otherwise westerly to southerly directions prevailing. Force fresh to strong generally with gales in many places. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough to very rough. Eastern Tasman Sea — Strong south-westerly winds to gales and very rough seas. The weather in Invercargill during the week-end was wet and cold. A strong south-westerly wind blew yesterday and conditions were most unpleasant. At .1 o’clock this morning we weather was cold and heavy rain was falling.
