STOCK EXCHANGE QUOTATIONS
LESSER DEMAND FOR GOVERNMENT SCRIP There was not quite the same demand for Government securities on the Invercargill Stock Exchange yesterday as there has been lately. Banks continue to be very quiet, no buying bids coming forward. No change is noticeable in the market for woollen, meat or pastoral companies’ shares. In the miscellaneous section there was a firmer tone for New Zealand Drugs, with buyers at £3/17/-. Quotations were as follows:—

RECORD YARDINGS OF FAT CATTLE TRBELE MARKET AT ADDINGTON (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, December 18. Record yardings of fat cattle and porkers were offered at Addington to- | day at the Christmas treble market. The beef yarding totalled 930 and was of excellent quality and sold well. Best steers were down 30/- a head and ordinary and plain cows and heifers and steers were down by £l. Best steers made £l5/10/- to £2O, ordinary £lO to £l5, best heifers £lO/10/- to £l5/7/6, medium £8 to £10; best cows £B/10/- to £l4/2/6 and others £6/10/- to £B. The fat sheep yarding numbered 6500 and was of good quality. Prices for ewes were down fully 2/- a head and wethers 1/- to 1/6, except prime light and mediumweight, which were fully
firm. Prime wethers made 28/- to 36/-, medium 25/- to 27/6, prime ewes 24/6 to 31/-, medium 16/- to 20/-. The fat lamb yarding of 5000 head sold very well, exporters taking about one-third of the yarding. Butchers competed freely for their requirements for Christmas trade and paid Id over the 8d schedule price for- best medium weights. The store sheep yarding was composed mainly of wethers, including several station lines. Tire demand was slightly slacker but prices were about on a par. The pork entry was the largest ever received at Addington and toward the end of tire sale there was an easing of 5/- to 7/-. The pork average was 6£d to 8d and the bacon average 6Jd to 7ad. COLOMBO TEA SALES (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, December 18. Mr L. M. Wright has received the following cabled report on the Colombo tea auction of December 17:— At yesterday’s auction of 2,000,0001 b competition was keen for all grades, particularly medium and fine quality teas. Common kinds were firm to dearer. Medium teas advanced about 2d a pound and fine grades about Id a pound. American and South African markets were buying heavily. The next sale will be held on January 7. WEST COAST DREDGES (United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, December 18. During the first half of December West Coast dredge returns were:— Barrytown dredge.—2sB ounces for 236 hours and 141,000 yards. Kanieri.—s46 ounces for 247 hours and 135,000 yards. Arahura.—4so ounces for 259 hours and 154,000 yards. KOMATA REEFS GOLD MINING (United Press Association) WELLINGTON,' December 18. Cabled information has been received from London that the directors of the Komata Reefs Gold Mining Co. Ltd. have declared an interim dividend of 3d a share, free of tax, on account ' for the year ending March 31, 1941, payable on January 16 on all shares I registered at December 24. The share register will be closed from December . 28 to January 16, both dates inclusive. J
