Ponty, will arrive from Auckland on Sunday to spend a few weeks with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. le H. Hoyles, Herbert street.

Miss Jean Scandrett and Miss Nancy Basstian were hostesses at a pantry evening at the former’s home in Victoria Avenue last night in honour of Miss Constance Chaplin.

Mrs John Chaplin, Elies road, was hostess on Monday evening at a buffet

supper in honour of Miss Constance Chaplin, whose marriage to Mi’ lan Park, of Levin, will take place on January 4. Mr and Mrs J. A. Sloane, Mulwala, New South Wales, arrived in Invercargill last night to spend a few days with Mrs Sloane’s mother, Mrs W. A. Stout, Filleul street, before leaving for Stewart Island. Miss M. Overton arrived from Marton on Tuesday night to spend the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. P. Overton, Lora Station, Winton. She was accompanied by Miss Nancy Neal, of Timaru, who will be her guest.

Miss L. E. McKay, Conon street, has received word from the Art Training Institute, Swanston street, Melbourne, that she has completed the institute’s course of instruction in commercial art, pased all the examinations and gained the Diploma of Commercial Art.
