THE WEATHER
Mainly Fine And Warm (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 16. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong north to west winds; weather mainly fine and warm, but unsettled conditions developing from the west. Seas moderate, but rising. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather continuing fine and mild over most of the country but rather cloudy, however, in Canterbury and unsettled conditions developing later in the extreme south-west. General Situation. —An anti-cyclone still covers the New Zealand area but a weak depression is located in the southwest Tasman Sea. Winds. —Light, to moderate and variable but northerlies freshening over the South Island during the day. Seas (New Zealand waters).—Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman SeaLight and variable winds and slight seas but fresh northerlies setting in over the southern portion with seas increasing. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine with bright sunshine all day. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was clear and fine. The barometer readings for this morning, Monday and Saturday have been:— This morning (falling) 30.00 in. Monday 30.18 in. Saturday 30.32 in.
