CHERRY SPONGE PUDDING

Wash 21b cherries. Cook with enough water to cover, and 1 heaped tablespoon sago. Pour into a pie-dish and cover with the followings—Sift la level cups plain flour, 2 level teaspoons baking powder, J level teaspoon, salt, 1 level teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1 cup castor sugar. Rub in 4 cup butter and form into a dough with 1 well-beaten egg, mixed with 2 tablespoons milk. Drop the batter into rough heaps all over the pie (don't spread), sprinkle with a little castor sugar, mixed with a little more cinnamon and bake in a hot oven for a few minutes. Reduce heat and bake until firm, about 45 minutes altogether. Serve hot or cold.
