HEAVY SNOW FALLS IN ALBANIA
Italians Falling Back SUCCESS OF GREEKS IN SOUTH (United Press Association —Telegraph Copyright) (Received December 3, 11.45 p.m.) LONDON, December 3. A new factor in Albania is the snow, which is five feet deep in places. It lies thickest on the northern front, where the Italians are falling back from Pogradec to Elbasan. In the south the Greeks gained their most important success, securing command of the road from Argyrokastron to its natural supply base, Santi Quaranti. The Italians were well-advised to move their supply lines north when they did.
Many tales have been told of Italian cruelty. In Epirus the Italians arrested 18 leading Greeks and carried them off as hostages when they retreated. Corfu has been bombed again and again, although it contains no military objectives. On the other hand many tributes have been paid to the courage of the Greeks and their readiness to accept any sacrifices to aid their country. The Prime Minister, General John Metaxas, sets the example.
