Mus;s grove, building contractor, on the cory ner of Charles and Henry Streets, Blen- ” heim, late last night had a lucky es- " cape when a large cylinder of\ compressed oxygen, used in acetone welde ing, exploded with terrific force. Eigh--11 teen feet of wooden wall and a cors responding area of corrugated iron roofing were hurled into the air, while the cylinder itself was found later in the yard of the Methodist Church 100 feet away. The windows of the church . and other adjacent buildings were blown in by the concussion, which shook houses over a wide area. The explosion hurled blazing timbers more than 100 feet into the air as ' a huge green flash, seen all over the district, leapt upwards. 7 Heard for miles round, the explosion 3 gave great impetus to the flames, which 1 destroyed a foundry and plant. The joinery department, offices, timbei’ stocks and three large motor-lor-r ries were saved. Fortunately, four other t cylinders of oxygen and acteylene gas 1 did not explode.
