BALFOUR CRICKET SEASON OPENS

A cricket team from Invercargill journeyed to Balfour and played a friendly game with the local team. The visitors batted first and were all out for 48 runs, Gavan 15 and Ramsay 15, being top scorers. Bowling for Balfour Bucham took two wickets for 6 runs, Orr three for 12 and Brown three for 11. Balfour compiled a total of 121 runs, to which R. Orr 38 and D. McLean 30 retired, were the chief contributors. Purdue, two wickets for 30 runs, and Gavan three for 23, were the most successful Invercargill bowlers. Invercargill were more successful in their second strike and compiled 68 runs before being dismissed.
