UNION FEES
To The Editor Sir, —May I add a few words of appreciation to “Member’s” letter about the Southland Hotel, Restaurant and
Related Trades Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers.
I quite agree with her and think it is time we asked for a reduction of fees. Why should a girl pay more than a man when the latter gets twice or three times her wage? Thirty-nine shillings yearly is ridiculous, especially when other unions can manage on 26/and 10/-. Of course we may be paying for the upkeep of the collector’s car. I hope a more able pen than mine will take up this matter.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. October 3, 1940. To The Editor Sir, —I read with interest a letter recently • published in your columns regarding the Southland Hotel, Restaurant and Related Trades Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers. I think it is time we did wake up. Of course I realize what the union has done for us, but why should we pay 39/- yearly when other unions require only 26/- and 10/- yearly? I do think there is something wrong. I wonder if our president can give us a reason for this state of affairs.—Yours, etc., THE BULLDOZER. October 4, 1940.
