STANDARD NOT AS HIGII AS USUAL (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 22. Because many of last year’s performers had joined the forces, entries for the 1940 amateur Wellington boxing championships, decided in the Town Hall on Saturday night, were not as numerous as in past years, noi was the standard as high as usual Not a single champion in the senior or junior division was on hand to defend his title; nevertheless, there was some prominent talent. Among the new senior champions are: Paperweight, P. Oliver; bantamweight, L. Mulholland; lightweight, B, Murphy; welterweight, B. Fairbrother; middleweight, J. Imlach; featherweight. D. Thwaites. YOUNG GILDO DRAWS WITH CLARRIE RAYNER (United Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Sept. 22. In a fast and willing 12-round contest between ,Y° un g Gildo and Clarria Rayner at the Opera House on Saturday night the decision was a draw.
