CHRISTMAS PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS
GOOD PROGRESS MADE IN PACKING Good progress has been made with the wrapping and packing of Christmas parcels for Southland members of the fighting forces and all the work will be completed by Friday. A total of 1380 parcels will be sent overseas from Southland. Of this number 380 will come from Eastern Southland and the remainder from the rest of Southland. The packing work is being carried out by the Invercargill Women’s Patriotic Committee, assisted by city and country sub-committees. On Friday 16 women were working at the depot, including four from Wyndham. The rest of the workers were members of the South Invercargill A sub-committee and the Gladstone subcommittee. The Central sub-committee members were also packing parcels on Friday in St. Paul’s Sunday School Hall. By Saturday 492 parcels had been packed.
The committee is in need of more flour bags and supplies of newspaper or brown paper would also be welcomed.
