TWO SERVICE BARS PRESENTED

INVERCARGILL ORPHANS’ CLUB MEETING The Invercargill Orphans’ Club held its fortnightly meeting on Saturday night. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. Bro. President J. H. Reed presided and presented service bars to Bro. E. A. le Petit and Bro. W. T. Hill for 14 years’ membership. Bro. G. A. McChesney gave an interesting talk on his trip from Auckland to Bluff on the new oyster trawler Torea.

The Invercargill Male Choir, under the conductorship of Bro. Dr S. E. V. Brown, provided part of the programme. The president expressed the thanks of the club to the conductor and choir members for their entertainment. Mr Adam replied and said that the choir always enjoyed the Orphans’ Club meetings. The following items were given:— Orchestra, under the conductorship of Bro. F. Lange, “Westmount Cadets” (march), “The Leek,” “March of the Mountain Gnomes,” “Smart Set” (march); songs, with orchestral accompaniment, Bro. J. E. Taylor; songs, Bro. R. Watkins; items by the Male Choir, “Liberty,” “Little Heather,” “On the Sea,” “Rock of Ages,” “Christian Martyrs” and “In Vocal Combat”; songs, Messrs'W. Farley and J. McKay (choir members). Community singing was led by Mr W. Aitchison. The accompanists were Bro. G. Lindsay and Mr K. G. Roy.
