BREACH OF SHIPPING REGULATIONS
CIVIL SERVANT BOARDS TRANSPORT ILLEGALLY (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 20. Stated by counsel to have been locked up in the ship’s prison with an armed guard over him all night until he was taken to the Police Station this morning, George Arthur Farnworth, a civil servant, pleaded guilty before the Magistrate, Mr J. L. Stout, to a breach of the Shipping Emergency Regulation by going on board a transport some time ago without a permit. The police said the accused was noticed leaving the ship about 9.45 p.m. Asked to produce his pass he refused and gave a false name. Later he admitted his identity and produced a pass which had been cancelled when the ship was last in England. Defendant was fined £2 and costs.
