PRODUCER GAS PLANTS
GOVERNMENT BOOKLET ISSUED
A booklet of particular interest and value at the present time has just been issued by authority of the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan). It deals with the use of producer gas as a substitute for motor spirit, and describes a plant suitable to meet emergency conditions developed by a Technical Committee appointed by the Minister just after the outbreak of war. This committee consisted of representatives of the Transport, Public Works, and Scientific and Industrial Research Departments, and before designing an emergency producer plant it obtained all possible information on the subject from overseas. The booklet describes in detail the various experiments carried out by the committee and the type of plant decided upon as a result of these
experiments. In a foreword Mr Sullivan states: I earnestly -commend this publication to all concerned with the transport industry and hope th'at advantage will betaken of the information it contains to aid the Government in its efforts to conserve supplies of motor-spirit.” Copies of the booklet may be obtained from the , Government printer, Wellington. The price is 3d a copy, postage paid. It is hoped in the near future to publish a service manual giving full details of the care and opera- I tion of producer gas equipment.
