Unsettled Conditions (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, September 20. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Winds from a westerly quarter, becoming strong at times in exposed positions. Weather unsettled with occasional ,showers, but chiefly on the coast. Temperatures cool and seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast: Weather fair to fine east of the main ranges and over the Auckland Peninsula. Unsettled in western areas from Taranaki southwards and in the far south with drizzle or rain at times. Temperatures cool in the south, and otherwise moderate to mild.

General Situation: The depression located in the south Tasman Sea yesterday has now moved to a position some distance south-east of the South Island. An anti-cyclone remains almost stationary to the north. Winds: From between north-west and south-west prevailing, mainly moderate to fresh but strong to gale force at times in some exposed positions south of Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay-. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits and south of Cape Egmont. Slight or moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds from a westerly quarter, moderate in the northern portion with slight or moderate seas and strong at times in the southern portion with rough seas.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was unsettled. A fine but windy morning was followed by rain and a strong westerly wind. The conditions were stormy last night. At 1 o’clock this morning there was a strong boisterous wind coming from the west, the weather being cold with frequent showers of rain and hail. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (rising) 30.20 in. Friday 29.98 in. Thursday 29.88 in.
