Scattered Rain

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, August 21. Following is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office:— Moderate to strong westerly winds. Weather cloudy with some scattered rain or drizzle on the coast. Temperatures moderate. Seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather for the most part fair to fine. Some scattered rain or drizzle, however, in the western and far southern areas of the South Island and a few isolated showers in Taranaki and over the Auckland Peninsula. A cold night, but moderate day temperatures. General Situation. — A. belt of high pressure extends from South Australia across the Tasman Sea on to the North Island. Weak -westerly depressions have been passing in the south. Winds.—From between north-west and south-west prevailing. Force mainly light to fresh, but strong at times in a few exposed positions. Seas (N.Z. waters). —Rather rough to rough at times north of Farewell Spit and south of Nugget Point. Slight or moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Moderate to fresh south-westerly winds and moderate seas in the northern portion. Strong winds from a westerly quarter and rough seas in the southern position.

Invercargill experienced a fine day yesterday. A strong south-westerly wind was blowing for the greater part of the day. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold and showery with a strong wind coming from the south-west. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows: This morning (falling) 29.82 in. Wednesday 30,00 in. Tuesday ' - , 30.04 in.
