LIBRARY GETTING NOWHERE
Criticism Passed By Councillor MORE EXPENDITURE NOT APPROVED “I feel after attending all the meetings of the Library Committee, that thelibrary is getting nowhere,” said Cr A. Wachner at the meeting of the Invercargill City Council last night. “I think it is only fair that all the members of the council should be invited to attend the nieeetings of the Library Committee so that they might become acquainted with the position. For my part I could not vote for any more expenditure on the library.” Cr Wachner said he did not wish to spoil the harmony of the library, but in the very near future the council would find that some more money would be required at the library. The members of the committee were acquainted with the business of the department and when the business came before the council all councillors were asked to pass decisions on the business. A number of suggestions made by Miss B. Ross on her return from Wellington, where she studied library methods, were recommended for adoption by the Library Committee. Cr A. W. Jones, chairman of the committee, said the suggestions were routine matters designed to make the library more popular. The council was able to take advantage of information obtained in the north, information which had cost other library authorities money to obtain. The recommendations were adopted.
