' EASTERN SOUTHLAND HUNT CLUB SUCCESSFUL MEET AT OKAPUA Conditions were ideal for the Eastern Southland Hunt Club’s open hunt held on Saturday at Okapua. The weather was fine and mild and the scent was good. On the first run the hare set off in a straight line from the property of Mr N. Kelly, sen., through those of Messrs N. Kelly, jun., and S. G. Cross. The hounds hunted particularly well and met with no checks until the hare took refuge in a culvert on the Otaina road. Taken back, the hounds were not long in raising a second hare which went from the properties of Messrs Kelly into those of Mrs E. Ford, Messrs F. Winsloe and E. Harvey and back to that of Mr N. Kelly, jun., where it was lost in a turnip patch, stock having crossed the trail. After the hunt, the riders adjourned to the residence of Mr and Mrs S. T. Kelly where afternoon tea was served. Those following were: j Deputy-master, Mr Andrew Dodds on I Deanna; huntsman, Mr W. Wayte on I Scapa Flow; whip, Mr N. Kelly on Anon; Messrs Arnott Dodds on Paddy; M. Kelly on First Flight; G. WIN FOR CANTERBURY (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, July 20. Crisp forward movements gave Canterbury a 10-1 victory over Otago in a representative Association football fixture for the Jones Cup this afternoon. Otago’s performance was well below representative standard and this gave the Canterbury vanguard plenty of chances to lirik up in spectacular fashion. The team work of the home side was all that could be expected, but Otago’s adoption of the three-back game somewhat spoiled its combination. WRESTLING BLOMFIELD BEATS CORBETT (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 21. A penalty fall awarded Lofty Blomfield won him the professional heavyweight wrestling match against Joe Corbett, of America, on Saturday night. Before this incident each had obtained a fall.
