YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED AT ANNUAL MEETING The annual report of the St. Vincent de Paul Society covering the activities of the society during the past year was presented by the secretary, Mr M. Miller, at the annual meeting held in Invercargill yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr G. T. Martin, was chairman. The report stated that £220 was spent in relieving distress in Southland during the year and 242 articles of clothing, six pairs of blankets and a quantity of material valued at £llO were distri-
buted. “We gratefully acknowledge grants from the Mayor’s Relief Fund and the Reginald MacKinnon Trust, besides donations from Bishop Whyte, the Right Rev. Monsignor Howard, bt. Catherine Old Pupils’ Association and many other benefactors,” the report continued. “The conference enrolled 67 honorary members, the subscription amounting to £l6/15/-. The poor boxes at Mossburn and Invercargill yielded £34/14/-, the charity art union £lO and collections at meeting £lO/10/-. We wish to thank the members of the St. Mary’s Sewing Guild for a donation of £5 and generous supplies of clothing to the wardrobe. Members of the conference regularly visit the hospital and distribute literature to the patients. Books and papers are sent to the public works camps in Southland and to the military camp at Burnham. Donations of books and periodicals will be gratefully received and forwarded to the camps.” In moving the adoption the chairman reviewed the work of the year and thanked all those who helped the conference with donations of money or clothing. Devotional exercises were conducted by the Right Rev. Monsignor Howard.
