GOERING GAINS PROMOTION

“Germany and Italy control 200,000,000 people, of whom more than 70,000,000 are employable,” Herr Hitler continued. “We have food enough for as long as the war lasts. There is nothing to worry us in our future. “Assertions of the possibility of a revolution in Germany are just stupid. England hopes to switch the burden of war to other countries. The possibility of Russia being involved is absolute nonsense. I have defined the spheres of our interest. German and Russian relations are finally stabilized. “Mr Churchill declares that he wants war. Our reply will be terrible. A great world Empire will be destroyed. I have never wanted it, but it will come.” Herr Hitler paused during his account of the Western Front operations to name the numerous military leaders, many of whom were promoted to fieldmarshal. Frantic cheers greeted each announcement, but the overwhelmingly biggest ovation greeted the announcement of Field-Marshal Goering’s elevation. “It is not given to many mortals to create an air force from nothing and make it the proudest weapon of its kind in the world,” said the Fuhrer. “I name Field-Marshal Goering Marshal of the Great German Reich and give him the Great Cross of the German Iron Cross. WARNING TO FRANCE “I had warned France that misery could be expected,” said Herr Hitler. “Marshal Petain asked for an armistice in an impossible military situation. Only the bloody dilettantism of Churchill is incapable of understanding this now. Even in this hour I consider it my duty to relieve my conscience and to direct my last appeal to England. This time I shall be believed because I am not the defeated begging but the victor appealing to reason. , I “I am sorry for the victims that a continuance of the war will bring. I want to spare my nation sorrow and

also to avoid the great suffering war will bring for millions of other people. I do not want to wage war, but instead to build a new social order. “This struggle can end only in the annihilation of one or other of the adversaries. Churchill believes that it will be Germany. I know that it will be Britain. “Possibly Churchill will brush away my appeal as born from fear. In that case I have relieved my conscience regarding the things to come. During the past 10 months my opinions about the future have always been right and the enemy’s always wrong. “England declares that she will emerge more powerful from the disaster, but Germany emerges more powerful from her victory. Germany is stronger militarily than ever. Our losses in men and material have hitherto been negligible. “We were able to send back many divisions from France to assist in the military production. War materials are being produced in such quantities that we have been forced to find additional storage. “We have unlimited supplies of coal and iron. We need no further importations of fuel oil or metals. To all this you must add the unlimited possibilities of booty from the occupied territories. These are still untouched.” HITLER MEETS CIANO (Received July 21, 6.30 p.m.) BERLIN, July 20. Herr Hitler had a conference with the Italian Foreign Minister (Count Galeazzo Ciano) lasting 75 minutes. Dr Otto Dietrich, the Nazi Press chief, FieldMarshal Erich Milch, Chief of the Air Staff, and Baron Wiezsaecker, the State Secretary of the Foreign Office, participated. Field-Marshal Goering gave a reception to the Italians in the Karin Hall after which they went to Rome.
