CAMPAIGN AGAINST RUMOURS

(Received July 21, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 20. A certain amount of misunderstanding in the public mind has caused the Ministry of Information to explain at length the campaign against rumour. The public should realize, it says, that this is not a campaign against free speech, but is directed solely against giving information to the enemy and spreading rumours which are nearly always untrue. Nobody desires to form an army of dumb people or create a body of whisperers.
