£3500 MARK IS PASSED
Fighter Plane Fund LATEST DONATIONS The Southland Fighter Aeroplane Fund is now well past the £3500 mark. Donations received on Saturday morning included £B6 subscribed at The Southland Times Office, which brings the total to £3588. The object of the fund is to present to the British Government a sum of money sufficient to buy two or more fighter aeroplanes which will bear the name of Southland and will be flown in action by Southland pilots. This object has the approval of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) and of the New Zealand Government, which has undertaken' to make the necessary arrangements with the British Government once the money has been raised. MR HAMILTON’S APPROVAL Pleasure at the spirit actuating the proposed gift of fighter aeroplanes was expressed on Saturday by the Hon. Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, and a member of the newlyconstituted War Cabinet. He said that there was no doubt that the money subscribed would be valuable in Britain’s war effort, and would be used in the direction desired by the people of the province. The committee organizing the appeal hopes to achieve its objective rapidly so that the money may be presented to Britain at an earlv date. Contributions may be sent to the provincial patriotic treasurer, (he town clerk (Invercargill) or to the editor of The Southland Times. To avoid confusion all subscriptions should be plainly marked “Southland Fighter Aeroplane Fund.” SOUTHLAND TIMES LIST The following subscriptions were received at The Southland Times office
