PATRIOTIC BALL AT OTAUTAU

The patriotic ball in the Otautau Town Hall attracted a good attendance, the building being decorated with flags, coloured lanterns and greenery. Extras were played by Mrs T. J. O’Neill. Messrs Alex. Edwards and J. Muirhead were masters of ceremonies. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Macguire (Invercargill) and Mr Turner (Drummond). A quartet, “Wish Me Luck,” was sung by Misses Sheila Campbell, Noeline McMillan, Shirley and Winsome Fisher. The accompaniment was plaved by Mrs A. Harrington. Mr W. J. Wesney, chairman of the committee, thanked all who had contributed to the success of the function, which would result*in £3l/5/- being Landed over to the Patriotic Fund. He read a letter from Mr N. G. Trotter, who enclosed a cheque for £3/10/- towards the expenses. Mr Wesney mentioned the valuable work done by Mrs Cuppies in all patriotic efforts during the Great War and up to the present in this one and wished her a speedy recovery from her illness.
