NEW ZEALAND WAR CABINET

Praise By Sydney Newspaper (Received July 18, 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 18. The Sun in an editorial commenting on the New Zealand War Cabinet, declares that in its war effort the whole people of the Dominion shares representation and responsibility and its political leaders have shown a practical appreciation of the value of unity which the people of the Commonwealth still awaits from its own Government. The Prime Minister (Mr R. G. Men-

zies) replying to a statement by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr J. Curtin) denied that Mr Curtin’s arrangement was similar to the plan adopted in New Zealand. “As I understand it, the New Zealand council is an executive body or War Cabinet,” he added, “Mr Curtin’s proposal was not for a War Cabinet at all, but for an advisory council. The two things are fundamentally different.” Mr Menzies hinted that he is at present in communication with Mr Curtin in order to try to achieve a compromise with the Opposition. U.S. INVITATION TO LEAGUE , (Received July 18, 7.40 p.m.) GENEVA, July 18. The League of Nations Secretariat accepted in principle an invitation from Princeton University to transfer the departments of finance, economics, health and opium control to Princeton.
