FIGHTER PLANE FUND
Total Now £2843 £350 SUBSCRIBED YESTERDAY More than £350 was subscribed yesterday to the Southland Fighter Aeroplane Fund which now stands at £2843. Practically the whole of this amount has been subscribed by direct giving. Contributions received at The Southland Times office yesterday totalled £l6O. The object of the fund is to present to the British Government a sum of money sufficient to buy two or more fighter aeroplanes which will bear the name of Southland and will be flown in action by Southland pilots. This object has the approval of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) and of the New Zealand Government, which has undertaken to make the necessary arrangements with the British Government once the money has been raised. Many functions are being arranged in aid of the fund, including a dance recital which is being organized by Madame May Thorn and will be held next month. Contributions may be sent to the provincial patriotic treasurer, the town clerk (Invercargill) or to the editor of The Southland Times. To avoid confusion all subscriptions should be plainly marked “Southland Fighter Aeroplane Fund.” SOUTHLAND TIMES LIST The following subscriptions were received at The Southland Times office
