PEOPLE RESIDING IN BACKBLOCKS

FACILITIES FOR SENDING PARCELS OVERSEAS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 17. If there are people in backblocks districts who have no facilities for sending parcels to members of the fighting services overseas and wish to do so, the secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board will undertake to arrange such a service on their behalf. Mr G. A. Hayden made this announcement when referring to a letter from a woman in the backblocks who found great difficulty, and forwarded him 10/- to send a parcel to her only son. Mr Hayden feels that a number of other people might be similarly situated and he brought the matter before the council, which agreed that it would be a good idea to provide a parcels service for these people, but it had to be made clear that the service was confined to people in the backblocks who were unable to purchase suitable goods.
