HIGH SCHOOL BOARD A recommendation that classes be started in the technical block of the

Gore High School as the new building was now completed was made by the rector (Mr E. H. W. Rowntree) in his report which was presented to the High School Board at its meeting yesterday. ; The school roll number was 268 compared with 263 at the corresponding period last year, while the evening I school pupils totalled 103 compared | with 85 last year, continued the report. As a result of the concert given by

pupils and members of the Gore Repertory Society, £4O would be given to the Patriotic Fund. The weekly penny collections from pupils had amounted to £6/10/-. Girls of the Junior Red Cross had been knitting squares to make blankets for refugee children and four blankets were completed. “Arrangements have been completed whereby every pupil will be trained in Red Cross work and they will be encouraged to sit for the certificate examination,” stated the report. The report was adopted. NECESSITY FOR SAVING PAPER

Adverse comment on the circular letter sent out by the Education Department on the need for saving paper was passed at a meeting of the Gore High School Board yesterday. The circular pointed out various ways in which a saving could be effected. “A saving is desirable, but they seem to be starting at the wrong end,” remarked the chairman (Mr E. C. Smith), after observing that a large proportion of the sheet used for the circular was blank and that the tjbing on it was for the most part double spaced.
