JOHN CLEMENTS IN “CONVOY” NAVAL ROLE FOR RISING BRITISH STAR Michael Balcon announces that he has signed John Clements to appear with Clive Brook in his new naval drama, “Convoy,” with Pen Tennyson directing. Clements will have the,part of a young lieutenant on board a light cruiser commanded by Clive Brook. One of the most rapidly-rising young men on ths British screen, Clements recently played his first starring part in “Four Feathers.” This film was the result of h’s consistently good work in supporting parts. Film-goers will remember him in “South Riding.” He also attracted considerable attention in “Knight Without Armour,” in which he had the role of the young commissar who fell in. love with Marlene Dietrich. In spite of his success in “Four Feathers” Clements has lately been devoting the whole of his time to his own 480-seat theatre in Palmers Green, from which he draws a salary averaging urder £l2 a week. An excellent cast has been lined up to support Clive Brook and John Clements in “Convoy.” It includes Edward Chapman, Stephen Haggard, Alfred Millen and Michael Balcon’s new “discovery,” Judy Campbell. The film will be released throughout New Zealand in the near future by British Empir* Films (N.Z.) Ltd.
