STEWART ISLAND

CONCERT BY SCHOOL GIRLS There was a large number of residents of Stewart Island present in the Oban Hall for a concert by a party of young girls, pupils of the Oban public school. The concert was entirely the work of the girls and great credit is due to them in their effort to raise funds for the local Patriotic Committee. The programme was as follows:— Part songs and folk dancing, the girls; songs, “Deep Purple” and “Mother Nature’s Lullaby,” Rima Bragg; dance, sailor’s hornpipe, Noeline Carstensen; dialogue, “Called Up,” Solvieg Askerud and Rima Bragg; sword dance, Betty Hawkins and Dorothy Armstrong; recitation, “Missing,” Ruth West; songs, “South of the Border” and “You’re the only Star,” Marion Hicks and Dorothy Oswald; recitations, “Cargoes” and “The Eagle,” Solvieg Askerud; song, “Little Lady Make Believe,” Joyce Campbell and Ellen Willa; song, “Clemintine,” Solvieg Askerud and Rima Bragg; song, “Umbrella Man,” Betty Hawkins, Dorothy Armstrong, Nancy Trail pnd Olive Leask, with action dance by Noeline Carstensen; dance, Highland fling, Dorothy Armstrong; song, “Animal Crackers,” Noeline Carstensen; song, “Gundagi,” Alison Michiler, Ula Campbell and Marion Leask.
