IMPRISONMENT FOR MOTORIST

(United Press Association)

AUCKLAND, July 2. Stating that he was unable to make an exception in this case and impose a fine, even if the defendant had left his car to get another person to drive him home, the Magistrate (Mr J. Morling) sentenced Norman Claude Vivian Newdick, aged 42, a salesman, to seven days’ imprisonment for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a car. Newdick pleaded guilty.
