Rain Developing
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, July 1. The following is the special Southland forecast issued by the Meteorological Office:— Moderate northerly winds. Weather mainly fine, but cloud increasing and rain later developing in the west, possibly by tonight. Temperatures milder. Seas slight to moderate.
Following is the Dominion forecast: — Weather changeable in tire Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay area v/ith scattered showers, but improving. Elsewhere fair to fine, but cloud increasing later in the far south-west, with light rain or drizzle developing. Temperatures very cold with widespread hard frosts.
General situation. —A weak anticyclone covers New Zealand. Pressure is now rising rapidly at the Chatham Island. Winds. —Light to moderate and variable over the South Island, with northwesterlies later predominating; elsewhere moderate to strong, but decreasing southerlies. Seas (New Zealand waters) .—Rough but decreasing between the East Cape and Banks Peninsula; elsewhere slight to moderate, with a considerable southerly swell continuing south of East Cape. Eastern Tasman sea.—Light to moderate and variable winds with northerlies gradually predominating in the southern portion, later freshening. Seas moderate. At 1 o’clock this morning there was a heavy frost, the weather being clear and calm.
