It was Christmas Eve in Animal Land. Baby Elephant was walking down the main street of the towm He was saying to himself all the time, “I wonder what I can buy Mother for Christmas?” In a very short time he met an old friend, and after exchanging a few words, Baby Elephant walked into a shop owned by Mrs Hippo. “Why! It’s Baby Elephant,” she exclaimed, “And what, sir, can I do for you?” “I want something for my mother for a Christmas present,” replied Baby Elephant, “and the only thing I know she needs is much too dear. You see I have only twelve and sixpence with me.” .. ... ...
“Plenty, I think,” said Mrs Hippo who had moved across to another table, “Come over here. There are plenty of things from which to choose.” So Baby Elephant chose his gift, and returned home from his shopping. —2 marks to Cousin Daphne Todd V.A.C. (14), 54 Ythan street.
