The Hon. T. F. Doyle, M.L.C., arrived from Wellington yesterday afternoon.

The Hon. T. F. O’Byrne, M.L.C., was an arrival in Invercargill yesterday afternoon from Wellington. Mr S. C. K. Smith, a member of the council of the New Zealand Bowling Association, will leave tomorrow for Christchurch to attend the annual meeting of the association on Thursday. Mr E. Solomon, of the Dunedin staff of the Vacuum Oil Company, Pty. Ltd., has been transferred to Invercargill and has taken up his new duties. Mr R. J. Callan, who for the past two years has been manager of the Invercargill branch of Hallenstein Brothers, Ltd., has received notice of his transfer to Marton, and will leave within the next fortnight. Mr James Roberts, national president of the Labour Party, who has been visiting Invercargill, left yesterday by car for Dunedin. Mr Justice Northcroft has been appointed District Artillery Officer in the Southern Military District and takes up his duties soon. He holds the rank of colonel.—Press Association.

Mr H. C. Trim, of Wellington, who has been appointed manager of the Invercargill station of the National Broadcasting Service, has arrived in Invercargill to begin his new duties. Mr J. F. Skedden, who has been manager at Invercargill for two years and who has been appointed programme organizer at Christchurch, will leave for the north by the mid-day express today. Mr Skedden received a presentation from the staff, Mr A. Ryland, senior technician, expressing the best wishes of the staff for Mr Skedden’s success and happiness. Mr C. B. Matthewson, manager of the Riverton branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, has been advised of his transfer on promotion to Stratford. He will be succeeded by Mr L. R. Austin, manager of the Reefton branch. Before going to Riverton Mr Matthewson was attached to the staff of the Invercargill branch. Dean O’Donnell, who has been in charge of the Catholic Parish of Ashburton for 48 years, yesterday celebrated the diamond jubilee of his ordination as a priest. Thirty-seven church dignitaries from all parts of the South Island took part in the commemoration, which has been observed only twice in the church —once for the late Archbishop Redwood. Dean O’Donnell is the oldest living priest in charge of a parish. The functions yesterday included a High Mass, a luncheon for the clergy, presentations by children and religious organizations. There was a public reception this evening, and an illuminated address was presented to the guest of honour.—Press Association.
