TWO PLAYERS ORDERED OFF

THE FIELD

The first round of the Galbraith Shield competition for senior Rugby teams was completed in good playing conditions on Saturday afternoon. Invercargill maintained its lead in the championship by scoring a narrow win against Pirates; Winton scored its first win of the season by decisively beating Bluff and Old Boys gained a twopoint victory against Star. In addition to some bright play in all games there was the unusual feature in Invercargill Rugby of two players being ordered off the field, one for questioning the decisions of the referee and one for alleged illegal tactics. , _ , The highlights of the days Rugby were the tries scored by wing threequarters—P. F. Johnston (Invercargill), E. Jackson (Old Boys), R. H. Mackrell (Old Boys) and R. P. Gibb (Winton). The results were: Winton 16, Bluff 6. Old Boys 9, Star 7. Invercargill 6, Pirates 3.
