The Hon. T. F. O’Byrne, M.L.C., and the Hon. T. F. Doyle, M.L.C., will leave for Wellington by the express this morning.

Mr John Gilkison has retired from the directorate of the Southland Building Society after 20 years’ service. At the annual meeting of shareholders last night tributes were paid to his valued services, sound judgment and cautious outlook. Mr John Chilwell, who recently retired from the position of factory manager at Underwood Condensery, has now been appointed a director of New Zealand Milk Products Limited. Mr R. B. Tennent, Director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, and Mr J. W. Woodcock, fields superintendent for Otago and Southland, arrived in Invercargill yesterday. Mr Tennent, who addressed a meeting of farmers at Drummond last night on the Government’s linen flax scheme, will return north today, but Mr Woodcock will spend another day or two in Invercargill .
