Intended To Run To N.Z.

Kenneth H. H. Baily, the English athlete whose plan to run from England to New Zealand on the deck of a liner was cancelled by the war, may now run to Rome instead. He intends to run in the next LondonWindsor marathon, and then, if it is possible, to take a team to Italy for the Rome Exhibition, starting from Southampton running on deck across the Channel, and on across France, taking in Paris, and through Switzerland. Recently Baily completed 50,000 miles of running on roads and round the decks of liners. It has meant covering from 80 to 90 miles a week for a period of more than 10 years.

Baily is a Bournemouth accountant. A year ago he ran from Bournemouth to Southampton, went aboard a liner, and with two companions, Noel Griffin and ’ 'ouglas Brady, ran round the decks in four-hour shifts, non-stop, from Southampton to New York. It was estimated that they covered 800 miles on the trip. A few months earlier a similar trip by way of Southampton and Cherbourg ended at the Paris Exhibition. Five years ago Baily had a series of serious operations and the first of these runs was taken to prove that he had been cured.
