CROWDS IN MADRID DEMAND RETURN OF GIBRALTAR

(United Press Association—Telegraph Copyright)

(Received June 16, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 16. There are growing signs of support for Italy in Spain. The occupation of Tangier by Spanish troops has been applauded and crowds in Madrid have demanded the return of Gibraltar. On the other hand, Turkey has forbidden her ships to sail beyond Smyrna and Italian banks throughout Turkey have wound up their clients’ accounts. No move has been made by the Italians on the FrancoItalian border. Italian bombers unsuccessfully attacked a British warship six miles from Malta, but the warship drove off the raiders. There were more air raids on Malta during the day. An intercepted radio message from Rome quoted the Italian spokesman as declaring that Italy was at war with Monaco.
