BEST LETTER FOR THE WEEK
I Waimumu, Te Tipua R.D., Gore. I Dear Cousin Betty, I went down to my auntie’s place at Morton Mains for the holidays. My mother- and father took me down on the Sunday after we broke up, and my cousin Jim decided to come home and play with my brother Jack and go home in a fortnight’s time when my parents came for me. During the holidays my cousin Kathleen and I went to Edendale to see some friends, and enjoyed ourselves very much. We went at 11.30 a.m. in the train and came home at 4.0 p.m. I had a good time, and when the fortnight was up, my parents
brought Jim back and took me home. I did not want to come home, but had to go to school the next day.
I doubled my brother on the bicycle to school on the Monday. When we reached school we played “Police and Robbers” and “skipping” to get ourselves warm. At halfpast nine the bell rang and we had to go into school to do our day’s work. There are thirteen pupils going to the Waimumu School. I think that is all I have to say, Cousin Betty, so I will say goodbye until next week. I am, Yours faithfully, Maureen Forde.
