SUCCESSFUL YEAR. EXPERIENCED GORE BOWLING CLUB “The club experienced a very successful season, notwithstanding the unfavourable weather during the latter months,” stated the forty-second annual report of the Gore Bowling Club presented at the annual meeting held in the club’s pavilion. “The opening day was very successful,” the report stated, “there being a full attendance and, although the green was not favourable for accurate play, everyone enjoyed himself. “During the season, the club entered two teams in the Day Cup competition and, although neither was successful, some very fine games were played with the sister clubs. The club congratulates the Edendale Club on its ' success in winning the cup. “The club held two doubles tournaments during the year and it was indebted to the Hokonui Club for the use of its green on both occasions. Good entries in the club competitions were received. The Murihiku Cup competition was particularly keen during the season and the club’s representatives, Messrs L. Craig, F. M. Murray, A. Thomson and E. E. Columb, were successful in beating R.S.A. (Invercargill) and were also successful in holding the trophy against Winton and Tapanui.” The report was adopted. Mr C. Bennett presided at the meeting and there was a large attendance of members. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr J. Garrick; vice-presi-dents, Messrs L. Brown (senior), J. Johnston (junior); secretary, Mr A. Watson; treasurer, Mr F. M. Murray; committee, Messrs M. Mitchell, J. Craig, W. Scobie, S. Preece and A. B. Caverhill; auditor, Mr W. B. Johnston; delegates to the Eastern Southland Bowling Centre, Messrs J. Garrick and L. Brown; green supervisors, Messrs S. Preece and H. Graham; selectors, Messrs L. Brown and F. M. Murray. Two new members were elected. The committee was recommended to make application to the Southland Bowling Centre for permission to hold a one-day rink tournament. Mr H. Graham was nominated as the club’s representative for selection as an Eastern Southland selector. At the end of the business the prizes won during the year were presented to the successful competitors by the retiring president (Mr C. Bennett). WINTER SHOW TO BE HELD PROCEEDS FOR RED CROSS SOCIETY A decision to hold the annual poultry and winter show again this year and to hand over all surplus money to the Red Cross and Sick and Wounded Soldiers’ Fund was made at a meeting of the committee of the Gore Poultry and Winter Show Club. It was stated that the National Beekeepers’ Association had agreed to hold a competitive display at the show and to give exhibits of honey for sale, the proceeds to go to the same fund. The Eastern Southland Womens Institute display of knitting will also be held m conjunction with the show for the Gutschlag trophy. , , To encourage entries to make the show a success business people are to be asked to give the usual special prizes. The club has already been promised gifts of fruit, cakes and art work for competitions and other donations of produce for sale would be much appreciated. . . , The following judges were appointed for the poultry • section of the show: Messrs G. Forty-two members took part in the weekly shoot of the Gore Miniature Rifle Club held in the Theatre Royal, The championship challenge button was won by J. Ferris with 79.
