OBITUARY
MR J. J. CORRY (United Press Association) BLENHEIM, May 17. The death has occurred of Mr John Joseph Corry, aged 71,. formerly a prominent racehorse owner and a leading figure in local bodies. He was Mayor of Blenheim from 1912 to 1921, a member of the Wairau Hospital Board 'rom 1909 to 1924, and chairman from 1911 to 1924. For a period he was a member of the New Zealand Racing Conference. He was born' in Carcoar, New South Wales. SIR BINDON BLOOD LONDON, May 16. The death has occurred of General Sir Bindon Blood, who resigned as Chief Royal Engineer in April, but remained Commandant of the Corps until his death. His name was on the Army List continuously from 1860. Sir Bindon, who fought in many campaigns, was 98 years of age. MR EDWARD LOCKTON LONDON, May 16. The death has occurred of the song writer, Mr Edward Lockton, aged 64. He was the author of the words of more than 2300 songs, including “Until,” and “Because.” He also wrote “When the Great Red Dawn is Shining” while on sentry duty at Buckingham Palace during the last war. This was played outside the palace on Armistice Day.
