EASTERN SOUTHLAND SUB-UNION FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY APPROVED The fixtures for Saturday were approved as follows at last night s meeting of the management committee of the Eastern Southland Rugby Football Sub-Union:— Senior—Albion v. Balfour, at Gore; Mataura v. Pioneer, at Mataura. Junior: Pioneer v. Albion, at Gore, at 1.30 p.m.; Wyndham v. Pukerau, atPukerau; Mataura a bye. Third grade: Mataura v. Pioneer, at Gore; Wyndham v. Glenham, at Wyndham, at 1.30 p.m.; High School a bye. Fourth grade: Mataura v. High School, at Mataura, at 1.30 p.m.; Wyndham v. Albion, at Gore. Those present at the meeting were:— Messrs J. W. Aitken (chairman), F. M. Murray, N. McLeod, J. Cunningham, W. Southern, H. G. Wallis, A. H. Davidson, F. J. Townsend, T. K. Clark, H. J. Hill, J. Stickle and J. A. Edwards. The secretary of the Albion Club wrote withdrawing the club’s third grade team from the competition, stating that the club did not have enough third grade members to field a team. Transfers were granted as follows: J H. Smith, from Pukerau to Albion; Colin Henry, from Old Boys (Invercargill) to Pioneer. WESTERN DISTRICT SUB-UNION At a meeting of the emergency committee of the Western Distiict Rugby Football Sub-Union a letter was received from the Otautau Club, claiming the senior' and junior matches against Ohai by 'efault. It was decided to hold th matter over. Clearances were granted to T. and M. Cournane from the Lumsden to the Nightcaps Club. The following referees were appointed fo- Saturday’s games:—Seniors: Ohai v. Nightcaps, Mr M. P. Lyng; Riverton v. Waiau, Mr J. A. Forde; Otautau a bye. Juniors: Nightcaps v. Ohai, Mr R. Murray; Waiau v. Riverton, Mr Hopwood; Western Star v. Otautau, Mr A. Harrington; Orepuki a bye. MENS HOCKEY FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY The draw for men’s hockey matches to be played on Saturday is as follows: Senior.- -Central . Civil Service, No. 3 ground, 3 p.m. (referees, Messrs H. E. Perrin and D. Gregg); Boys’ Brigade Old Boys v. Collegiate, No. 1 ground, 3 p.m. (Messrs W. Curwen and F. Hinton). Intermediate.—Central v. Collegiate. No. 1 ground, 1.45 n.m. (Messrs I. Speirs and H. E. Perrin); Boys’ High School v. Technical College, as arranged. Junior.—Technical A v. Technical B and Boys’ High School A v. Boys’ High School B, as arranged. NO CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. Interprovincial hockey matches for the New Zealand Championship Shield and the Nordon Cup will not be played this season, according to a decision reached at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association. The association decided also to express its wish that all other competition matches should be held. The election of principal officers resulted as follows:—Patron, the Gover-nor-General (Lord Galway); president, Mr H. S. J. Goodman; secretary, Mr W. H. Down; management committee, Messrs R. Gracie, H. Throp, C. S. Bellamy, A. Stonyer, C. C. Holland, K. Hamilton and W. Williamson.
