Major H. C. Mackenzie, president of the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ Association, and Mr J. Filippini, secretary, are visiting Wellington for the annual meeting of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association.

Dr P. Gow, of Winton, returned last night from a visit to Wellington. Mr C. W. Carter, formerly a member of the Invercargill Post Office staff, yesterday took up his duties as postmaster at Pukerau. Mr Carter replaces Mr A. G. Osborn, who was recently appointed postmaster at Rai Valley. Mr F. Gray, of Wellington, who will succeed Mr F. G. Clark as chief clerk in the office of the District Traffic Manager of Railways, is expected to take up his new duties next week.

Mr W. M. Norman was elected chairman of the Forest Hill Scenic Board at the annual meeting of the board. Mr W. T. Pocknail, of Wellington, who will succeed Mr W. A. Croft as transport officer in the Invercargill branch of the New Zealand Railways, is expected to arrive in Invercargill tonight. Mr Croft has been transferred on promotion to a similar position in the Christchurch branch of the department. He will leave for Christchurch on May 9.

Mr A. W. Cameron, who has been head stockman at the Borstal farm for 15 years, will leave today on transfer to Paparua, near Christchurch. He was met by members of the staff of the institution at a farewell function and the superintendent (Mr R. W. Arnold) made a presentation of a travelling rug. The superintendent and other members of the staff spoke of Mr Cameron’s ability and attention to his duties and wished him success in his new work. Mr J. N. Greenland has been appointed to a seat on the Board of Directors of Union Airways of New Zealand Ltd. Mr F. Maurice Clarke has been appointed general manager of Union Airways N.Z. Ltd.—Press Association.

Captain A. W. Pease, for many years the Port of London Authority’s representative in Australia and New Zealand, has been elected president of the Ancient Mariners’ League, England, of which he is a foundation member. Captain Pease is 83 years old.
