PRESENTATION MADE BY CONGREGATION

The North Invercargill Baptist Sunday school hall was well filled last evening when members of the congregation gathered to bid farewell to the Rev. T. R. Page and Mrs Page, who are leaving the district. Mr Page, who has completed a four years’ ministry in Invercargill, is leaving to assume the pastorate of the Baptist Church at Putaruru (Waikato). They will depart tO Mr W. S. Roberts, church secretary, was the chairman, and associated with him on the platform were speakers from associated churches, together with the deacons of the church The Rev. Hugh Graham, speaking on behalf of the Ministers’ Fraternal as well as the North Invercargill Presbyterian Church, expressed appreciation of the fellowship he had enjoyed with Mr Page and admiration of the work he had carried on. , The Rev. S. W. Wyness, on behalf of the Esk Street Baptist Church, and the Rev E. N. Goring, representing the Baptist Church in Georgetown also spoke and wished the guests of honour a fruitful ministry in the North Island. Representatives of various organizations connected with the church, and Baptist work in general, expressed regret at the impending departure ot Mr and Mrs Page and presented them with gifts. . , , -n flSpeaking on behalf of the church, Mr Roberts paid a tribute to the talents which Mr Page possessed and had used in the extension of the Kingdom ot God in Invercargill. His versatility integrity, business capacity and faithful expounding of the Gospel had brought the church into a healthy condition m every way, he said. Special mention was made of the healthy financial state which the church enjoyed, brought about by the wise management of Mr Page during his term of office as pastor. To an extent the success of the ministry could be attributed to Mrs Page, who in a quiet manner, had been an effective helpmate to her husband in the work of the ministry.. The presentation of an inscribed chiming clock from the church was made by Mr E. R. Bryant, senior deacon. . , Mr Page thanked the various speakers for the words of appreciation and farewell, and acknowledged the support of his wife in his work as a minister.
