The track was fast and there was a large attendance. The totalizator handled £10,772, compared with £9320 last year, an increase of £1452. Results: INNOVATION HANDICAP, £ll5. EASTERN SOUTHLAND HUNT CLUB OPENING MEET HELD ON SATURDAY The Eastern Southland Hunt Club’s opening meet held at Otamita on Saturday afternoon was the most successful meet ever held by the club. A large crowd of spectators attended and the afternoon’s programme was followed with keen interest. Two drag runs were held over the properties of Messrs John Miller and G. D. Wilson. The hounds hunted keenly and kept well together throughout, the pace ,-et testing the fitness and prowess of the horses. The standard of jumping was high for so early in the season and there were no falls. Those following were: G. Wayte (master) on Free Trade, W. Wayte (huntsman) on First Flight, J. Wilson on Monarch, and N. Kelly on Anon (whips), and Miss S. Cochrane, Messrs G. Wilson on Walmo, K. Whiteley on Silk Spot, H. Phillips on Ripaway, A. E. Whiteley on Brownie, A. Dodds on Balboa mare, G. Whiteley on Header, R. Gibson on Independence, and Master R. Cochrane. Jumping competitions resulted as follows:—
