BLUFF Mr and Mrs Jack Hamilton, Gore street, have returned from a holiday in Queenstown. Mr and Mrs G. P. Thomas and their small daughter, of St. Albans, Christchurch, have returned home after a visit to Mrs Thomas’s parents, Mr and Mrs W. B. Dixon, Bandon street. Miss I. Woods, Blackwater street, was the guest of Mrs Williams, Awarua Bay during the week-end. Miss Jessie Robinson and Eileen Green, of Bluff, and Mrs Green of Invercargill, have returned from a visit to the Exhibition. Mrs W. Hanna and Miss Peggy Hanna, I Theodore street, have returned from a holiday in Dunedin. Miss Ivy Small of Invercargill, was the guest of Mrs B. Johnston, Tone street, during the week-end. CLIFTON Miss M. Wallscott, Colac, spent a few days in Clifden as the guest of Mrs A. H. Rowley. Mrs and Mrs I. K. Hardey, Invercargill, have returned after spending a holiday with friends in Clifden. Miss Rosemary Rowley, Invercargill, was the guest of her - mother, Mrs A. H. Rowley, “Clifden House” for the weekend. WOODLANDS Mrs J. A. Mangan, Tuatapere, was the recent guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs J. C. Hannan, Woodlands. Misses P. Muir and J. Frew, Wood-
lands, were the guests of the latter’s sister, Mrs W. J. Taylor, Oporo, last week. Mrs J. Jones, Invercargill, was the recent guest of Mrs H. Waddell, lands. Mr and Mrs J. Speden, Main street, Gore, were the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Waddell, Woodlands. Mrs A. Napper, Woodlands, entertained a few friends to afternoon tea at her home in honour of Mrs J. C. Hannan who is shortly leaving Woodlands. Those present were Mesdames J. C. Hannan, C. J. Roseveare, J. Robbie, and J. Pye, Misses C. McKerchar, H. M. Giddings and J. Johnstone. Mr and Mrs M. W. Clark “Grassmere,” spent the week-end with relations in Dunedin. Miss Bedford, Christchurch, is the guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs F. Bedford. Mr and Mrs E. Dawson and their family, Invercargill, and Mr V/. M. Jones, Nightcaps, were the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Waddell, during the weekend. Miss Ethel Gormack, Invercargill, is staying with her sister, Mrs R. C. Frew. TAPANUI Mr and Mrs J. C. Beaton were welcomed home from their wedding trip at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. H. White, “Brooklyn,” Tapanui, on Wednesday evening. Mr L. Rutherford played several violin selections and Miss J. Robertson played the accompaniment for the community singing. A pleasant time was passed with cards and dancing and community singing. A kitchen evening was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs S. Bruce, Waikoikoi, in honour of Miss H. Bruce, on the occasion of her marriage. A basket of gifts was presented by the members of the Waikoikoi Bible Class
and friends, which were opened by the future bride, on whose behalf Mr James Falconer returned thanks. Miss M. McCall for the Women’s Division gave a fruit dish, and Miss Jessie Lindsay, for the Basketball Club, a vase, both wishing Miss Bruce happiness and prosperity. Miss Bruce replied, thanking the Women’s Division and the Basketball Club for their gifts. Games were played during the evening, to music supplied by Messrs A. McCall, J. Cooper and N. Falconer.
